This is our family dog, a two-year old miniature dachshund named Harper. We love and consider her as part of the family. In May of 2014, she got hold of a Sago Palm "pup" which contains highly toxic seeds. Within an hour she began vomiting heavily, so we took her to the emergency vet clinic, thus beginning an unexpected journey for our family. More than six months of treatment, emotional ups and downs, and more than $6,000 in vet bills later, we consider ourselves very lucky to still have our sweet "Miracle Dog" in our lives.
Knowing what I know now, I can't believe how many Sago Palms are in residential neighborhoods. And most people I've told Harper's story to knew nothing about the dangers associated with these plants. If you own a Sago Palm - or know someone else who has Sago Palms in their yard - I encourage you to read and share this site and educate yourself on the dangers of Sago Palms. Please consider removing yours. You could help to save a life!
